Information

Population Services International (PSI) is a nonprofit organisation that harnesses the vitality of the private sector to address the health problems in more than 60 developing countries. In Lesotho, PSI focuses on the promotion and delivery of high-quality HIV prevention products and services including Trust and Lovers Plus condom brands and New Start HIV Counseling and Testing Centres. In addition, PSI Lesotho supports behavior change communication activities through multi-channel approaches.

PSI Lesotho seeks to appoint a Research Officer to oversee the establishment and maintenance of voluntary counseling and testing (VCT); sales, marketing, interpersonal communication (IPC) and training departments’ management information systems, and support the Research Manager in designing and implementing research activities.

Description

Responsibilities:

  • In conjunction with the Research Manager, implement research monitoring and evaluation activities, including study designs, questionnaire development and sampling frames;
  • Coordinate quantitative and qualitative research studies in conjunction with the Research Manager (serving as the primary coordinator for at least one study per year);
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative data analysis under the supervision of the Research Manager and prepare preliminary reports as needed;
  • Oversee the development, and ensure quality control of six PSI databases;
  • Develop capacity of all PSI VCT site managers and receptionists on data entry for VCT service statistics;
  • Support marketing and interpersonal communication teams in designing and implementing pre-testing activities;
  • Support Finance team in preparing monthly report verifying consistency between sales and warehouse data;
  • Serve as PSI/Lesotho’s qualitative research champion, keeping abreast of new trends and methodologies and building staff capacity as appropriate;
  • Oversee the work of Research Assistant.

Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in public health, behavioral sciences, population studies, psychology, communication, or appropriate professional practice essential;
  • Basic knowledge of a statistical analysis programs such as ACCESS, SPSS, STATA, Nvivo and Excel essential;
  • Strong analysis skills, writing skills and presentation skills essential;
  • Ability to work with social marketers to generate actionable research essential;
  • Excellent interpretational skills essential;
  • Three years relevant working experience in health related research activities essential with major emphasis on qualitative research strongly preferred;
  • Extensive knowledge of HIV/AIDS as a public health issue strongly preferred;
  • Design, analysis, dissemination and management of behavioral research pertaining to Health issues such as HIV/AIDS, STI etc preferred;
  • Specific methodologies and analysis: behavioral studies, multivariate analysis, path modeling, tracking surveys, mapping studies, multi-item scaling preferred;
  • Design and implementation of operations research and population based surveys preferred;
  • Fluency in spoken and written English and Sesotho essential;
  • NGO experience preferred;
  • Knowledge of and experience using Microsoft Office essential;
  • Driver's license strongly preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills essential.
